Lim Update 2023!
Mentorships, events, & workshops
Your annual update on my goings-about!
Apologies if you receive this twice. Yesterday’s newsletter went to everyone’s spam! Rude.
This year, I’m the Writer’s Trust of Canada’s Fiction mentor. Tell your friends (who write fiction) to submit to this mentorship program, which comes with $2,500 (whee!) and 6 months of solicited and unsolicited advice from me. Learn more and submit to the mentorship here.
From September ‘22 to April ‘23, I was the Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor at University College in the University of Toronto. In March, I hosted the event “Money’s Too Tight to Mention: Writing Novels about Labour,” with Sheila Heti and Suzette Mayr. It was a thrill to talk workplace writing with two novelists who make sense of work in such different ways. Click on the video to watch our conversation. I’m sorry if you couldn’t come in person because after, there was sushi.

Next week, I’m on this terrifying-sounding panel for the Scotiabank Giller Prize: The End is Nigh: Apocalyptic Canadian Fiction. It’s with Larissa Lai, Saleema Nawaz, and Waubgeshig Rice, hosted by Omar El-Akkad. It’s on Zoom so there’s no escape! Register here.
Wed, May 17th / 7:00 pm EST / Zooooom
This Spring, I’m a writer-in-residence at the Toronto Public Library. I’m giving a workshops series on writing science fiction and fantasy, and I’m also available for one-on-one manuscript consultations. I’ll be there for all of May and June: come by! Details on when, where, and how are here.
